A practical closed testing checklist for indie Android apps

Group, opt-in, install link, and retention are separate steps. Treat them that way and your recruitment posts stay honest.

Closed testing fails in the seams between steps. A working Group link does not mean opt-in succeeded. An install link does not mean the tester stayed for fourteen days.

Before you recruit, confirm the package name, testing track, and that every external link opens on a phone without tribal knowledge. Copy and share actions matter as much as the URL itself.

In the post, separate “join testing” from “request a return test.” People should know the first action is available immediately, and the second unlocks after install when they have their own recruitment live.

Track committed seats toward your twelve-person goal, keep voluntary help open afterward, and use optional missions only for deeper feedback—not as a gate for basic completion.
